Looking back towards Ullswater and Place Fell from the road to Greenside Mines.

Just after taking the previous picture I left Greenside Road and headed up to The Rake.

Sunshine on Birkhouse Moor.
I don't suppose you could say I was exactly high up on the fells, but the wind was already starting to knock me about a little.

Looking in the same direction as the previous picture, from Glenridding Dodd summit.

The view back to Glenridding Dodd.

Glenridding, Ullswater and the valley through to Patterdale.

And again.

It may have been wet and muddy, but at least I wasn't walking up the edge of the fell anymore, where I was beginning to question the wisdom of walking up there in such a strong wind. In fact, it was having such an influence on me at this point that I didn't even bother taking the camera back out until I was well over the other side of the summit.

Anyone who knows me would agree that I'm a long way from being an eight stone weakling, but this was such hard work I was struggling to keep moving. I must have been in a particularly bad place and walking as straight as you can possibly get into the wind because it actually felt like someone was trying to push me backwards. And as I intended to walk into Glencoyne anyway; I gave up fighting against the wind and ended up cutting the corner.
I dread to think what it was like up on the higher fells, unless as I said, I may have been in a particularly bad spot.

Heading into Glencoyne to get some photos of the breached dam and the sheepfold next to the wall.

Looking up to Glencoyne Head from the sheepfold.

Considering the amount of cloud there seemed to be everywhere else, I think I did pretty well today. As I lost height on this path down to Ullswater, the wind got calmer and the sun got warmer.

It may not look it but the picture is actually level.

Seldom Seen, now a row of holiday cottages, but originally built as cottages for the local miners.

Sunshine on Glencoyne Farm.

And now for an enjoyable walk back along Ullswater shore line to Glenridding.

A close up of Norfolk Island.
